Project Students 2017-2018

Deadline:  10pm October 7th 2017

Application procedure:

  • Send your Application Form (with picture) and your CV to with the subject ‘Project Student 2017-2018’ before the deadline.
  • You may be invited for an informal interview in the week of October 8th.
  • You will find out if you are selected to become a project student for AFD in 2017-2018!

Info: As an AFD project-student, you’ll get the chance to work in a group of 4-6 students from different faculties in cooperation with an NGO, a company or a fourth pillar active in the South or a start-up in a developing country. In this team of students, you will work together throughout an academic year on an issue that the partner has put forward. The project consists out of two phases, starting with a preparation phase during a full academic year to gather objective information via experts, analyse the project and prepare the implementation. Afterwards, you and your team go to your respective project country for 6 to 8 weeks to carry out your project in reality. The ultimate goal of each project is to realize durable and meaningful social impact. If you want to know more about how an AFD-project team is supported, out of what an AFD-year consist or what an AFD-project can look like, you can find more information here.

IMPORTANT REMARK: You can valorise your AFD project for ECTS points in your curriculum. This is also a key step if you would like to apply for a scholarship (e.g. VLIR-UOS). This process is different depending on your faculty so make sure to check how your faculty handles this. In most cases, students should take it as an elective in semester 2 (e.g. in the Bio-Science Engineering faculty it is different). Note that many faculties do not like it for you to take the project in semester 1 already! ISP’s open again in the beginning of the second semester which means that you can easily change another elective into this project then. If you have a full schedule already, you can ask for a credit contract.
